What if I have an appointment booked and I'm worried about my symptoms?
If you have a scheduled appointment but notice a worsening or sudden change in your eye symptoms, it is important that you seek advice promptly rather than waiting for your appointment. Symptoms such as a sudden increase in flashes or floaters, a “curtain” or shadow over your vision, or a sudden decrease in vision may indicate a more urgent eye condition that requires earlier assessment.
In these situations, we recommend that you contact your referring GP or optometrist as soon as possible, so they can reassess your symptoms and, if necessary, contact our rooms to arrange an earlier review. Alternatively, you are welcome to call our practice directly to speak with our staff, who can provide guidance on the most appropriate next steps.
If your symptoms are severe or rapidly worsening, you should seek urgent medical attention. This may involve presenting to your nearest public hospital Eye Casualty Department (eg. at the Princess Alexandra Hospital).
